Let's Celebrate Sustainability

This year marks 50 years of the Toyota Country Music Festival in Tamworth! And while we are prepped and ready for a huge celebration, we are also prepped and ready for the increased amounts of waste, water consumption and energy use. Proud Gumbaynggir/Bundjalung man, Troy Cassar-Daley, is back on board as our sustainability ambassador in 2022. Troy is helping us spread the word about celebrating sustainability while in the Country Music Capital. With his strong connection to country, Troy is someone who definitely walks the talk when it comes to sustainability. Tamworth to Troy is like home, and when he visits, he encourages festival revellers to do their bit through recycling, reducing and reusing.

Did you know that over the usual 10 days of Festival in January, around eight tonnes of recycling is generated? That’s the equivalent of 520,000 aluminium cans!
We have general waste and recycling beverage bottle bins located right across the Festival precinct to make it easy for visitors and locals alike to keep Australia’s Country Music Capital clean during our biggest celebration of the year!

Water is vital to our way of life, and the Tamworth region knows just how precious this resource is, experiencing one of the worst droughts on record in 2019-2020.

Right now, Tamworth’s water supply is healthy, but that does not mean we can waste it. During the 50th celebrations, we are encouraging visitors and locals alike to remain vigilant with water use and be mindful to conserve water where possible. So that means, have short showers and report and leaks.

Every precious drop that we save will go a long way!

And while we’re at it, we encourage Festival-goers to avoid leaving lights on in their rooms or accommodation when they leave for the day and set their air-cons between 18 and 20 degrees, as this is the most sustainable temperature to reduce energy consumption.

We’re encouraging all Festival-goers to be mindful and conscious of how they can recycle right, conserve our precious water, and reduce their energy use.

Make sure you keep an eye on the Festival and Tamworth Regional Council social media pages for the Let’s Celebrate Sustainability campaign and you could score yourself some freebies!

Come on team, join Tamworth and Troy as we celebrate sustainability this Festival!
