Construction is underway on Duri Road intersection

Construction is underway on a $1.4 million State Government funded intersection on Duri Road, leading to the future site of the Arcadia Residential Estate.

Works started on Monday in a section between Burgmanns Lane and Bylong Road and are expected to be complete in June.

The grant is part of the NSW Government’s Regional Housing Fund, and is being used by Council to achieve a better result for Tamworth, by constructing a safer intersection that provides access to the future housing development of Arcadia. The intersection design includes a right-hand turning lane, improving safety for all road users approaching the future subdivision from Duri.

Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb said the project is an ideal and effective use of the State Government funding.

“Having the funds to build the intersection now means there will be an intersection there on Duri Road when the time comes that the proposed residential area of Arcadia starts to be developed,” he said.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said this is a great investment for Tamworth to support their growing community.

“The NSW Government is delivering more homes across our state and projects like this are helping regional councils like Tamworth with the necessary infrastructure to support growth,” Mr Scully said.

“This road upgrade in Tamworth will provide an important road and stormwater upgrade to support up to 1600 homes to be built in the Arcadia Residential Estate.”

As part of the construction project, a 600m section of Duri Road is also being rehabilitated, including widening of the existing road pavement and a new bitumen seal, which will give road users a smoother ride.

During construction, this section of Duri Road will be reduced to a single lane traffic with temporary traffic lights in place to ensure traffic management.

Regular drivers of Duri Road may experience some delays from Monday 19 February 2024.
