Woofing good time to be had at dog gala day

Pampered pooches and their owners can enjoy a day in the park this Sunday 29 October as Tamworth Regional Council’s Gala Day for Dogs returns from 10am to 1pm.

Designed to bring together dogs and owners, the day provides an opportunity for socialising and a bit of fun for those with four legs and two.

There will be a program of events such as an agility course, and competitions including senior dog, largest dog, smallest dog, best owner look-a-like), best adult handler, best child handler, best trick, best dressed dog, and a fun category of most vocal dog and owner.

Dog-themed stalls will be at the event, with everything your pet could possibly need including toys and harnesses, gourmet treats, canine skincare such as paw balm, and even a paint your pooch workshop and demonstration. Owners don’t miss out though, with a coffee van and barbeque on site for humans to enjoy.

The day is also an opportunity to help those dogs in need, with a toy collection taking place for animals housed at Tamworth Regional Council’s Paws for Life shelter.

Tamworth Regional Council Director Liveable Communities Gina Vereker said the event isimportant to connect dog owners with a range of services in the region.

“The gala day provides an opportunity for dog owners to see the range of organisations andservices in our region and be aware of the requirements of responsible dog ownership, all while having fun,” said Ms Vereker.

“Owning a dog and taking care of it properly is a big responsibility, making these vital connectionshelps improve the wellbeing of dogs and their owners which has an overall benefit for the community.”

Entry to the event is free and open to everyone, whether you own a dog or not. If you do have a dog with you it must be kept on a leash at all times and have any faeces collected.
