Celebrate International Day of People with Disability

Thursday 23 November, 2023

Plenty of fun and games is expected at The Tamworth Youthie on Friday, 1 December, as community members are invited to come together to recognise International Day of People with Disability.

Featuring an array of entertaining activities, including live music, a complimentary sausage sizzle, a dunking station, face painting and a variety of engaging games suitable for people of all ages, the day promises to be an uplifting, inclusive and enjoyable experience.

Katey Allwell, Coordinator, Community Wellbeing at Tamworth Regional Council, said the event held at Tamworth Regional Council’s facility “is a wonderful opportunity for people with disability and their friends, family and carers to come together, have fun, and embrace the spirit of inclusivity”.

The 2023 United Nations theme for International Day of People with Disability is about making the world better and fairer for people with disability. The day aims to promote community awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disability.

“International Day for People with Disability is about coming together as a community to celebrate all of our unique abilities and contributions,” said Charmaine Alley, a committee member for the event.

International Day of People with Disability at The Youthie will commence from 10am to 2pm. Those who would like to participate in the dunking station are encouraged to bring a towel and a change of clothes.

For community members who are unable to access regular transport options and require individual transport, free transfers to and from the event with Fiona’s wheelchair accessible Mini Buses is available on 6760 9084.
