Sports Dome to host vaccination hub

Wednesday 1 September, 2021

Tamworth Sports Dome will host the region’s first walk-in vaccination hub on Sunday 12 September, 2021.

There will be no appointment needed – anyone over the age of 18 wanting to be vaccinated can simply go to the Dome on Jack Smyth Drive at Hillvue and walk-in between 9am and 3pm. No appointment is necessary, nor is a Medicare Card.

Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray said the hub is a “great outcome” to provide the local region community with greater access to vaccine.

“It’s pleasing to see the work over several weeks to now be able to deliver a vaccination hub for the Tamworth Region,” he said. “It has been encouraging to have such a great level of cooperation in particular from the Primary Health Network, Hunter New England Health and UNE.”

State Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the walk-in hub will remove any barriers to access a vaccination.

“This is a great opportunity for the 20,000 plus residents of the Tamworth community who are yet to receive a vaccination,” he said. “The Tamworth Sports Dome will become the clinic where anyone over the age of 18 will have access to the Astra Zeneca vaccine, regardless of their circumstances.”

“I am deeply concerned about the positive sewerage tests in Tamworth and that’s why we need to continue the push for everyone to get vaccinated. We need to stay in front of the virus and vaccination will help us do that.”

Councillor Murray said Tamworth Sports Dome is an ideal location for the vaccination hub with easy access and plenty of parking as well as spacious areas inside which can be set up to ensure the flow of people can be done in a safe way to meets the guidelines of health experts.
