Sports and Entertainment Precinct Road Safety Upgrades
Overview
Tamworth Regional Council secured funding through the Road Safety Program for the construction of pedestrian infrastructure at three sites in the Sports and Entertainment Precinct to improve safety for pedestrians and road users, as well as supporting participation in active transport.
The three sites are:
- At the roundabout on Jack Smyth Drive and The Ringers Road, adjacent to the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC)
- The Ringers Road, adjacent to the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Convention Centre (TRECC)
- Longyard Drive, adjacent to the TRECC
Funding
The project was made possible through the Road Safety Program, jointly funded by the Australian Government and NSW Government. Funding of $1.437 million was secured for the safety upgrades at Tamworth’s Sports and Entertainment Precinct.
The funding allocations are:
- The roundabout on Jack Smyth Drive and The Ringers Road ($682,000)
- The Ringers Road, adjacent to the TRECC ($468,000)
- Longyard Drive, adjacent to the TRECC ($287,000)
Project works
Construction works will be staged between July and December 2026. As it is likely there will be road closures throughout the construction period, the venues within the area have been consulted to avoid closures during major events.
