From live music and late-night dining to shift work and cultural events, what happens between 6pm and 6am plays a vital role in shaping the character of a city. Now, we're inviting you to have your say on two key “Tamworth After Dark” initiatives set to go on public exhibition later in March.
At the heart of this work is the Draft Night Time Economy (NTE) Strategy. The night-time economy refers to the network of social, cultural and commercial activities that take place after dark. A strong NTE supports local jobs, encourages tourism, boosts hospitality and entertainment industries, and helps create safe, welcoming spaces for people of all ages.
The Draft Strategy aims to strengthen Tamworth’s 24-hour economic framework by expanding opportunities for entertainment, hospitality and cultural experiences. Whether it’s enjoying live performances, sharing a meal with friends, or attending community events, the vision is to foster a vibrant and inclusive after-dark environment that benefits both residents and visitors.
Supporting the Draft Strategy is the proposed Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) Planning Proposal. The CBD and Sports and Entertainment precinct are set to commence a one year trial in May, following public exhibition of the Draft Planning Proposal later this month. Special Entertainment Precincts are defined areas where trading hours and sound conditions are tailored to encourage live performance and later trading, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and diversity.
A big thank you to all those that have provided feedback, attended workshops, drop in sessions and meetings on these projects so far. Strong community support for a better nocturnal landscape is encouraging and we invite everyone to continue providing feedback and promoting discussion.
