Smoke free policy

Tamworth Regional Council introduced the Smoke-Free Environment Policy (PDF 183.4KB) in 2016. The policy aims to improve the health and well-being our community members and improve the public amenity of our city and surrounds.

The smoke free areas currently apply in the following areas:

  • Tamworth CBD: Peel Street (between Bourke and Hill streets); and Fitzroy Street (between Kable Avenue and Marius Street).
  • Manilla CBD: Manilla Street (between Court and Market streets)
  • Barraba CBD on Queen Street (between Alice and Savoy streets)

The policy was developed after extensive community consultation, which showed strong support for a smoke-free environment policy for our region. Our policy complements the NSW Smoke-Free Environment Act and covers additional areas that aren’t included in the State Legislation.

Please refer to our Smoke-Free Environment Policy (PDF 183.4KB) for full details of smoke-free zones (including the use of electronic cigarettes) in our region.
