Council officially moves to 474 Peel Street Tamworth

Tamworth Regional Council's Customer Service and Development Hub are officially moving to their new location at 474 Peel Street Tamworth on Tuesday 3 January 2023.

In the New Year, the community will be able to receive the same, great friendly service that is currently available at Ray Walsh House. 

While this is a big change for the community, residents wishing to come in for help with a Development Application, to make a payment or ask a question should continue to feel very welcome to visit us at our new site when Council reopens in January after the Christmas shut down period.

474 Peel Street was chosen as the new location as it is a Council-owned building and is in close proximity to the centre of Tamworth’s CBD to ensure convenience for residents accessing Council’s services.

Council has been forced to relocate all staff from Ray Walsh House into other office space due to the failure of the building’s air conditioning system earlier this year, which provided all heating, cooling and air circulation in three of the five floors. The presence of friable asbestos in the form of fire proofing Vermiculite meant that the replacement of this air conditioning system was not possible without first removing the asbestos containing material.

Ray Walsh House will close in preparation for the remediation works, which are expected to begin in the first half of 2023.
