Healthy Pet Day at Tamworth Regional Companion Animal Centre

Thursday 25 May 2023

Today, Tamworth Regional Council in partnership with the RSPCA and TAFE is running a Healthy Pet Day program between 9am and 1pm.

Healthy Pet Day includes free pet care services to those eligible and takes hands-on action to improve and ensure the health and wellbeing of pets in our community.

Services including health checks, vaccinations, microchipping and general advice and are on offer to residents of the Tamworth region. It’s expected that 63 dogs and 30 cats will be provided care throughout the event.

The service is available to pensioners, concession card holders and registered job seekers living in the Tamworth region.

Director Liveable Communities, Gina Vereker said the event is a crucial one to help reduce the number of unidentified pets at the Tamworth Regional Companion Animal Centre.

“Microchipping helps us return lost animals to their owners, while vaccinations help keep pets happy and healthy, she said. “Both microchipping and vaccinations are important responsibilities of all pet owners, so we are glad to help some of our residents achieve this.”

“Ensuring pets are desexed is also important to prevent unwanted puppies and kittens. While we can’t offer that at today’s clinic, we encourage pet owners to organise this with their local vet”, said Ms Vereker.

Eligible residents could register up to two animals per household with services offered to litters under certain circumstances, however, breeders are not eligible.

This event is run biannually to help residents in our community maintain the health of their pets.
