Youth Council Meeting Update - 30 July 2026

The Youth Council commenced the meeting with a Q&A session for prospective Youth Councillors who have applied to join the 2027-2028 Youth Council term. The session provided applicants with the opportunity to learn more about the role and responsibilities of Youth Council members. This was followed by an open floor discussion, where applicants asked questions of current Youth Councillors, Council staff, and Tamworth Regional Councillor Ryan Brooke.

State Member for the Legislative Council, Anthony D'Adam, attended the meeting and met with Youth Council members and prospective Youth Councillors. During the session, young people had the opportunity to raise issues of importance to them, discuss challenges facing the community, and provide direct feedback on matters affecting local youth.
Youth Council agreed to invite Elissa Wesche, Tamworth Regional Councils Volunteer Services Officer, to attend the next Youth Council meeting to discuss strategies for engaging young volunteers and encouraging greater youth participation in volunteering opportunities across the region.
Tonight Youth Council agreed to invite Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, to attend a future meeting to discuss issues affecting the region, current legislation, and matters of importance to local young people.
Sanza Arzal, representing Miss World Australia and Variety – the Children’s Charity, attended the meeting to present on the Beauty With a Purpose project, Dear Diary – Voice for Advocacy. Sanza provided an overview of the initiative and its aim to empower young people to share their experiences, perspectives and ideas on issues affecting their communities. Youth Councillors discussed opportunities to support the project and explored ways young people can use advocacy to drive positive community change.
