2022 Tamworth Regional Sports Awards finalists

The proud and strong sporting culture and achievements of individuals, teams and organisations across the Tamworth region are highlighted in today’s announcement of finalists for the 2022 Tamworth Regional Sports Awards.

The finalists are (listed in alphabetical order):

Junior Sports Star of the Year

  • Abbie Peet – Athletics
  • Adam Williams - Athletics
  • Brooke Wallis - Futsal
  • Jewels Guy - Futsal
  • Lily Parsons - Futsal

Senior Sports Star of the Year

  • Jack Davis - BMX
  • Jay Stone - Athletics
  • Kai Clark – Rodeo
  • Mitchell Watts – Rugby Union
  • Nathanael Young – Cricket and Golf

Coach of the Year

  • Anthony Barbara - Womens Pirates Rugby Club Team including 14s, 16s, 18s and Opens
  • Craig Mackay - U11 Frogs Hockey Team, Tamworth Rep U13 Boys Hockey Team, Kiwi Hockey Club
  • Steven Doherty – Two Oxley Vale Attunga Womens teams
  • Tim Coates - Oxley Vale Attunga Mens Premier League Team
  • Yvie & Joaquin Povea - Women's Kootingal Kougars White Team including under 10s and assisting with under 13s

Special Achievement Award

  • Jess Bills – Involvement in Soccer
  • Josh Johansen - Achieving outstanding results in his chosen sport (Paralympic event called Goalball) and on his selection to play for NSW state and onto National level
  • Olivia Earl – Participates in Athletics, Netball, Soccer, League Tag and Softball
  • Sarah Horne - Volunteer for netball within Tamworth and the Northern Inland Region

Ken McKenzie Award

  • Carmen McGinnity - Services to Gymnastics
  • Greg Doolan - Services to NIAS
  • Gary Semms - Services to Oztag
  • Lyn O’Brien - Services to Netball
  • Peter Lees - Services to Netball

Local Achiever Award

  • Fiona Sing – Para Badminton
  • Josh Jones - Tamworth Swans AFL club
  • Mathew Apps - Cricket and Hockey official, coach and player
  • Olivia Earl - Participates in Athletics, Netball, Soccer, League Tag and Softball
  • Samuel Williams-Glass - Football and Cricket

Junior Sports Team of the Year Award

  • Barraba Central Mixed Netball U12
  • NIAS FC Northern League 1 U13 Team
  • St Edwards Netball U10
  • Tamworth Junior Oztag 16 Girls Rep Team

Senior Sports Team of the Year Award

  • Kiwi Hockey Club
  • Oxley Vale Attunga FC Mens Premier League Team

Sport Development Award

  • New England Roller Derby
  • Tamworth Gymnastics Club
  • Tamworth Hockey Association
  • Tamworth Swans AFL & Netball Club

One person will be inducted into the Tamworth Regional Sporting Hall of Fame and there will be an Overall Sports Star of the Year Award presented.
