Local Legends to be recognised in new awards
The 2021 Local Legends Awards are set to be the inaugural annual awards event which recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals and organisations to the community of the Tamworth region.
The awards are a culmination of previous Tamworth Regional Council awards: Seniors Awards, Volunteer of the Year Awards, Access Awards, Sustainability Awards and the Gift of Time recognition.
It became apparent to Council that combining the awards would better fulfil the purpose of recognising the legends in our community and hence the name of the awards was born. It was also identified that asking community members to nominate for awards multiple times throughout the year was inconvenient.
Tamworth region Mayor, Col Murray said that it is great to see these new awards come to life and give community members the recognition they deserve.
“The Local Legends Awards are a brilliant initiative from Tamworth Regional Council. It’s important to recognise people who make our region a better place to live for all of us. These legends need to be commended for the brilliant work they do and these awards will serve that purpose.”
The award ceremony will be a semi-formal event at the Tamworth Town Hall at 10am Friday 26 November, 2021.
Combining the previous awards allows for greater scalability and the addition of new awards in the areas of visual arts, performing arts and community inclusion. For each award there will be 5 finalists announced and invited inclusive of the award winner.
Nominations for the Local Legends Awards are open from 9am Thursday 30 September to 5pm Wednesday 20 October, 2021.
