Council meeting update - 5 January 2022
Wednesday 5 January, 2022
Here is an overview of outcomes from tonight’s Ordinary Meeting, the first meeting of the newly-elected Council:
Tonight Councillor Russell Webb has been elected Tamworth Region Mayor with Councillor Mark Rodda as Deputy Mayor. Mayor Webb said he was honoured to have the support of the newly elected councillors. The Mayoral term runs until September 2023 and tonight councillors supported a motion for the Deputy Mayor’s term to be for the same period.
Councillors dealt with a number of administrative matters including a decision allowing any councillor vacancies arising within the next 18 months to be filled by a countback of votes cast at the December 2021 Local Government election. They also agreed to continue the current schedule of ordinary meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and endorsed an updated General Policy Register.
Councillors Marc Sutherland and Bede Burke were chosen to join the Mayor and Deputy Mayor as voting delegates at the Local Government NSW Annual Conference with councillors Brooke Southwell, Judy Coates and Helen Tickle also authorised to attend. The conference is scheduled to be held in Sydney from 28 February to 2 March this year. Councillors tonight asked for a report about proposed draft motions to be presented to the next Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday January 25.
