Council and Challenge continue discussions

Tamworth Regional Council’s General Manager, Paul Bennett, and Director of Water and Waste, Bruce Logan, met with Challenge Community Service’s CEO, Peter Maher, and General Manager Business Services, Richard Hardwick on Thursday to continue discussion around the two organisations relationship in the future.

At the meeting it was agreed that there were four objectives both parties wished to achieve:

  • Maintain existing service delivery to the people of the region
  • Maintain employment of Challenge Staff
  • Achieve ongoing financial sustainability of both organisations
  • Preserve the positive relationship between Council and Challenge to ensure future collaboration and support.

Mr Bennett said, “our discussions with Challenge have been ongoing for many months and I am pleased that we are making progress towards a future partnership that provides positive outcomes for all involved including Challenge staff and our wider community”.

Mr Maher said “ We have a fantastic group of dedicated workers who have served the Tamworth community for years and I am very confident that they will continue to make a really important contribution to recycling in Tamworth. “

Council and Challenge will meet again this week to provide updates on progress made in reaching the outlined objectives.
