Nominations open for Seniors Awards

30 Jan 2020

Nominations for the 2020 Tamworth Regional Seniors Awards are now open, with residents encouraged to nominate individuals or groups in the region which promote the wellbeing of older people in the local community.

The awards will recognise achievers in Tamworth, Barraba, Manilla and Nundle. Awards will be presented at a special ceremony at Tamworth Community Centre on Wednesday 26 February, 2020 at 10am.

Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray said there are many local seniors who actively help and support their community.

“We all know a person or a group making a positive difference to the wellbeing of older people here in our region and we want to recognise their amazing efforts,” he said. “Please help us in acknowledging those who give so much by nominating them for a Seniors Award.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/seniorsawards. Completed forms should be returned by Wednesday 19 February, 2020 by email to trc@tamworth.nsw.gov.au; by mail to The General Manager, PO Box 555, Tamworth NSW 2340; or in person at Council’s office at Tamworth, Barraba, Manilla or Nundle.

Anyone aged 60 or older who is active on community committees, undertakes volunteer work, is an advocate for other seniors or has contributed significantly to community life in an unpaid capacity is eligible to be nominated for the individual category of the Seniors Awards.

The Seniors Awards group award category acknowledges the work of groups in the community which promote the wellbeing of older people. The group can be any size and is expected to have engaged in longstanding service to older people in the community, or have been responsible for a major activity or project which has benefitted older people.

An independent panel will assess nominations.

For further information about nominations, please contact Amy Crocker at the Tamworth Community Centre on 6767 5990.
