The region’s water supplies are drawn from a combination of three dams, five rivers and a series of local bores. Clean water is supplied to the region through a careful treatment process at the major Calala Water Treatment Plant in Tamworth and local treatment facilities in the towns and villages.

The modern phase of Tamworth’s water supply started in 1958 with the Dungowan Dam and was enhanced in 1980 by the Tamworth Water Supply Scheme, which saw the addition of Chaffey Dam and the Water Treatment Plant. The Cockburn, MacDonald, Manilla and Peel Rivers and the Barraba Creek together with a number of bores, provide the water supply for the towns and villages of the region.

It is important to know how much water we have and how much we are using. The water supply levels are updated weekly so that you can keep track of how much water we have in Tamworth and the towns and villages.
