The key to making any program or initiative successful, is the formation and development of partnerships with community groups, businesses and schools. Council seeks to form such partnerships to improve waste management practices.
To achieve this Council employs a Waste Education Officer who is available to residents, students and teachers within the Tamworth Regional Council area as a contact for provision of education either through guest speaking appearances or arranging tours of the landfill sites or providing printed educational materials and arranging campaign promotion.
Tamworth Regional Council’s Waste Education Officer’s role is to inform the community about waste related issues and the benefits and necessity of following the Avoid, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle principles.
Tamworth Regional Council undertakes the following initiatives to educate the community about waste, recycling, anti-litter campaigns and interactive learning:
- clean up Australia Day
- waste > art and design competition
- Country Music Festival event recycling campaign
- general event waste management
- don’t be a tosser campaign
- displays at community events such as the Rotary Garden and Outdoor Expo, Home and Leisure Show and Coledale Community Expo
Our environment and society are changing rapidly and so too is the need for action from the community in making better choices about their waste and what they do with it.
Students
If you are undertaking an assignment that relates to waste, recycling, composting or worm farming and you would like some information, please send an email to the Waste Education Officer outlining your request for information and what you would like to know.
Please make sure that you allow yourself enough time to establish contact and receive the information.
Teachers
Tamworth Regional Council has a full time Waste Education Officer who can provide assistance with waste and recycling issues including general enquiries, educational assistance or advice relating to waste management.
By request, the Waste Education Officer can attend your school/class to talk about waste, composting, worm farming or recycling. This can be arranged by filling out the School Visit Booking Form and returning it to the waste education officer.
Alternatively, if you would like to take your class on a tour of the landfill, this too can be arranged by completing the Application Form and returning it to the Waste Education Officer at Council.
