Schools, businesses and residents in the Tamworth Regional Council area have again participated in the 21st National Annual Clean up Australia Day Campaign.
There were 18 officially registered sites across the Tamworth Regional Council area with 31 formally registered participants and many more who joined in on the activities held on Sunday 6 March 2011.
Many of the Tamworth Regional Schools and youth groups participated in the annual event, but don’t formally register their school or group as participating in the event activities and are unfortunately not accounted for in participant numbers.
This years clean up activities retrieved 1.6 tonne of discarded materials from the various registered locations within the community. The majority of this material is made up of the usual litter items that are thoughtlessly discarded by people such as drink bottles, cigarette butts and take away food packaging.
Council congratulates all those volunteers who formally registered and those who turned up on the day and participated in this worthwhile event.
Council encourages residents to get involved in 2012 - the campaign's 22nd year.
