Tamworth Waste Management Facility
Tamworth Waste Management Facility
The Tamworth Waste Management Facility is located on Forest Road near the city of Tamworth and has served as the city's main waste disposal facility since about 1973. The landfill has progressively been adapted to focus on recycling and resource recovery rather than just waste disposal. Today, the facility diverts about 50% of the material coming into the site away from landfill. In recent years the facility has become a regional waste management hub. Waste is now brought to the facility from a number of rural waste transfer stations. This has resulted in the total amount of waste being received at the facility increasing to about 76,000 tonnes annually.

The Tamworth Waste Management Facility now operates a small vehicle waste transfer station as well as a landfill for burying garbage on site. This means that members of the community can now dispose of their rubbish in a more pleasant environment, where they are not combating mud, dust, waste at their feet and the risks presented by large vehicles or trucks.

Resource Recovery is the retrieval of any material that can be reused, recycled or reprocessed to make other items. Resource recovery is critical to reducing the amount of waste buried in landfill and helps to extend the lifespan of waste management facilities. As well as general household recycling, the Tamworth Waste Management Facility provides a recycling point for commercial clients and a vast range of non-household items such as tyres and clean brick and tile.
