Forest Road Landfill (Tamworth) is a unique site within the Tamworth Regional Council portfolio, as this site operates a Small Vehicle Waste Transfer Station (SVTS) and also buries garbage on site.
First stop – the Weighbridge
When entering the site, you must stop at the Weighbridge first. Weighbridge staff will inspect loads being brought onto the site and provide advice to customers on appropriate disposal and any costs that could apply.
The weighbridge operates using traffic lights to control vehicles coming into the site and vehicles that require weighing when exiting the site. It is essential that there is only one vehicle on the weighbridge at any one time.
Second stop – the Small Vehicle Waste Transfer Station
Visitors may dispose of household rubbish at the dumping point as well as place recyclable material into the nominated bins at the facility.
A staff member is always present to advise customers about placement of their waste in the correct locations.
The SVTS was commissioned for two reasons:
- to further encourage residents to separate and divert recoverable wastes from being disposed of at the landfill
- to allow residents a safe and convenient means of managing their waste
The SVTS has been completed. The completion of the final stage now allows residents to recycle even more material at the facility and provide easier access to bins that are available for resource recovery.
Residents now find they can dispose of their rubbish in a more pleasant environment where they are not combating issues such as mud, dust, large quantities of waste at their feet and larger vehicles or trucks moving about them.
The facility is supervised at all times. This makes it easier for residents to access information and obtain directions about resource recovery opportunities at the site.
Conditions of Entry to all Landfill / Tip Sites
