Rural Waste Management Facilities
Tamworth Regional Council operates 12 waste management facilities across the region, which are designed for the disposal of general solid waste material, commonly known as garbage. The facilities vary significantly in size and the way that they operate. The operational capacity of each facility is designed to meet the needs of the local community. Some facilities receive and bury waste on site and are known as landfills and are often referred to as 'tips'. Other facilities operate as waste collection and transfer stations. Waste transfer stations are generally only suitable for small vehicles. The waste collected at these facilities is transported to the Tamworth Waste Management Facility at Forest Road for disposal. Check the Locations and Operating Hours for more information about the individual sites and the waste materials they accept.

Check what is accepted at each of the 12 waste management locations before taking your waste and remember that the three rural waste transfer stations are only suitable for small vehicles. All vehicles and visitors must report to the weighbridge or office at the waste management facility before entering the site.

Opening days and times vary at each site and are subject to change, so check before taking your waste.

At recent Council meetings, Council resolved to reopen the Kootingal and Attunga Landfills as Small Vehicle Waste Transfer Facilities.
These sites have been closed to accepting waste for burial on site and will now operate as waste transfer facilities for the collection of domestic volumes of waste material.
How each site will operate has also changed.
