The Attunga and Kootingal Landfills ceased landfill operations on 01 February 2011.
Following the closure of these sites as landfills, Council further operated the Kootingal and Attunga sites as Small Vehicle Waste Transfer Facilities on a trial basis to assess user patterns and consider the impacts that the recent extension of waste collection services had upon the facility.
All waste is collected in skip bins at both sites then transported to the Tamworth Waste Management Facility for processing and burial.
On 08 November 2011, after consultation with the Attunga Tip Working Group (ATWG), Council considered and approved the closure of the Attunga Small Vehicle Transfer Facility after the seven month trial.
The closure of the Attunga Small Vehicle Transfer Facility is effective from 5 December 2011 after the last scheduled operating day on 4 December 2011.
The Kootingal Small Vehicle Waste Transfer Facility will continue in it’s current operation pending further assessment of sustainable options to manage waste for residents of the locality.
