Recycle collection occurs fortnightly. For residents and businesses that have access to the roadside recycling collection service, Council provides a green body bin with a yellow lid (see pictured).
Council encourages the recycling of the following:
- plastic bottles and containers (marked 1 – 5)
- empty steel cans, aerosol containers, aluminum cans and foils
- milk and juice cartons
- glass bottles and jars
- paper
- cardboard
Please note: all of these items can be placed in the yellow lidded bin together.
The products you put in your recycling bin are collected, sorted and made into new products.
It is vital for the recycling process that only the correct items go into the recycling bin. Incorrect items can cause many problems in processing and may result in recoverable resources going to landfill.
It is essential that recyclable items are not placed in plastic bags. Plastic bags can do damage to the machines that sort the recyclables.
When placing items in your recycling bin, please:
- flatten cardboard
- rinse all containers (use your washing up water when finished)
- remove lids from bottles and jars
- do not place recyclable items in plastic bags
What should not be placed in the recycling bin:
- plastic bags of any kind
- food scraps
- nappies
- garden organics
- household garbage
- building materials
- syringes
- mirror/window glass
- ceramic or porcelain
How to ensure your bin is emptied
- place your bin out the night before your collection day
- place your bin on the kerb or roadside, handle toward house
- place your bin at least one meter clear of telegraph poles, trees, street signs, cars or other bins
- do not block pedestrian pathways or vehicle access
- do not overfill your bin. Make sure the lid is closed
- make sure your bin has no contamination
- remember to take your bin in when emptied the same day as your collection to help prevent theft or damage
- do not store bins in the street, footpath or in a back lane
Did you know you can help our environment
Helping to reduce your eco footprint and help preserve our environment is critical. One of the best ways to conserve resources and divert waste from landfill is through recycling.
Did you know that every tonne of recycled paper used saves up to13 trees, two and a half barrels of oil, 4,100kWh of electricity, four cubic metres of landfill and 31,780 litres of water? (University of Western Australia).
