Garbage Collection occurs weekly. Residents who have access to the garbage collection service are provided with a green body garbage bin with a red lid (see pictured). Any waste that is not hazardous can be placed in your garbage bin. However, smaller recyclable items and green waste should be put in the appropriate bins and not in the garbage bin.
What you can place in your Garbage bin:
- household garbage
- plastic bags
- food scraps
- nappies
What you should not place in your Garbage bin:
- hazardous waste
- medical waste
- electrical goods
- metal and whitegoods
- dirt and rocks
How to ensure your bin is emptied:
- place your bin out the night before your collection day
- place your bin on the kerb or road shoulder in rural areas, handle toward house
- place your bin at least one meter clear of telegraph poles, trees, street signs, cars or other bins
- do not block pedestrian pathways or vehicle access
- do not overfill your bin. Make sure the lid is closed
- make sure your bin has no contamination
- remember to take your bin in when emptied the same day as your collection to help prevent theft or damage
- avoid storing your bins in the street, footpath or in a back lane
