You Can't Buy Better in Tamworth
As part of its resource recovery initiatives, Tamworth Regional Council operates a Buy Back Centre called Yacannabuybetta at the Forest Road Landfill in Tamworth.
Yacannabuybetta operates like any other shop or store with stock or items for sale except for one small difference. All the goods for sale have been discarded by their former owner and have often been thrown out as waste.
The aim of the centre is to allow Council to remove as much reusable material as possible from the waste stream and prevent it from ending up in the landfill.

Community Support
Yacannabuybetta was established in 1997. Since then ongoing community support for separating and supplying reusable goods, as well as purchasing goods, has ensured the continued success of the Buy Back Centre.
Thanks to the community support, the current facility processes in excess of 100 tonnes of material a year.
The centre receives an average of 300 visitors per week who either deliver goods or go shopping. Many satisfied customers have gone away with that unique little something from their shopping experience. Often these products undertake a transformation and become a valuable new usable product.
Future plans for Yacannabuybetta
The Yacannabuybetta Buy Back Centre will be moving to a more suitable location in the near future. The move is expected to be completed by the middle of 2012.
There are a number of reasons for the move:
- relocation will provide easier access for the general community to Yacannabuybetta. There will be improvements for dropping off suitable items and materials that can be recycled and reused as well as better access to view items for sale
- moving the facility away from the waste disposal area of the Tamworth Waste Management Facility will ensure a safer environment for Yacannabuybetta customers
