White Street, East Tamworth, will be closed to through traffic for three days next week when work starts on pavement reconstruction between the railway crossing and Napier Street.
The work – from Wednesday 26 April to Friday 29 April - will focus on the rehabilitation of the centre nine metres of the White Street roadway plus the resealing of the remainder of the White Street pavement towards the kerb and gutter.
Only residents needing to access their homes will be permitted to use White Street during the works.
Motorists wanting to travel between East Tamworth and the CBD are advised to use Brisbane Street and Murray Street as an alternate route.
Other changes to traffic conditions during the works include:
- No right turns from White Street into any of the cross streets;
- Rawson Avenue between Hill and White streets will be closed at White Street;
- No left turn from Upper Street into White Street when travelling from Hill Street; and,
- The speed limit will be temporarily reduced to 40km/h.
There will also be no on street parking in White Street between the railway crossing and Napier Street while the work is being undertaken.
The work is part of the ongoing White Street Reconstruction Project which started in February this year.
After the pavement rehabilitation work is completed next week, Council will carry out a full reseal of the roadway to complete the project. A date early in May is yet to be finalised for this work but it will involve the closure of the street to all traffic.
Council has been considering several different ways to complete the reseal works but chose the option of completing closing White Street for one day because it will result in the least amount of time of disruption to residents and motorists who use the busy thoroughfare through East Tamworth.
