The Tamworth Regional Heritage Assistance Fund is a local grant scheme which is available to assist with the partial funding of heritage conservation and restoration works for properties listed as a Heritage Item in schedule 5 of the Tamworth Regional Local Environmental Plan 2010. The aim of the fund is to financially assist owners of heritage listed properties in order to protect and conserve the heritage items.
The Heritage Assistance Fund provides for small grants offered to property owners for maintainence works on heritage buildings. Grants are offered on a $ for $ basis.
The funds offered by Council are not intended to cover the total cost of conservation work but to provide partial assistance with the cost of conservation work. Allocation of funds is assessed on the basis of the type of conservation work proposed, importance of the work to the conservation of the property and total cost of the work.
Successful applicants will usually have six months to complete their project.
The types of projects that are normally funded include:
- repair, maintenance or reinstatement of missing items on heritage buildings i.e. fences, verandahs, roof cladding and/or decorative detail
- structural work
- final painting of projects
Applications are invited on an annual basis (in August) and if successful, the proposed work must be completed by May in the following year.
The next round of Heritage Assistance Funding will be announced in August 2012. If you are interested in applying for funding under the 2012/2013 program, please contact Council to be placed on eligibility list to receive an application form prior to the official launch of the program.
Heritage Awards
Council will be conducting the Tamworth Regional Biennial Heritage Awards in June 2012.
The aim of this program is to recognise and promote good design solutions that ensure that significant elements of heritage buildings and heritage conservation areas are maintained and enhanced.
The Awards serve to encourage excellence in design and craftsmanship, and to promote community awareness of our heritage.
It is anticipated that any work completed under the Heritage Assistance Fund since 2004 will be eligible to enter the Awards.
Further information regarding the 2012 Awards will be placed on the website in the coming months.
