What is a hoarding and why is it required
Hoardings are fences and/or scaffolds erected on the ground to form a barrier between public thoroughfares and construction sites. This may include overhead protective structures that are required for the protection of adjoining public areas and persons on a construction site.
What are the different types of hoardings
The different types of hoardings are classified as Type "A", Type "B" and Type "C" hoardings:
- Type "A" are a vertical protective structure constructed in plywood timber or other approved materials and is at least 2.1 metres in height
- Type "B" refers to overhead protective structures
- Type "C" refers to type "B" hoardings with overhead sheds or storage
Where is hoarding to be located
A hoarding is to be located as far as practicable along the boundary line of the property. Should the need arise, Council may allow encroachment over part of the Council nature strip as long as adequate width is available so that pedestrians are still able to walk past the site.
Making an application for a hoarding
If you would like to apply for an approval to erect a hoarding please download and complete an Application Form - Erecting a Hoarding and return it to any of our Customer Service offices.
