Rain moves Tamworth civic events indoors
Some of Tamworth’s Australia Day celebrations tomorrow will be held indoors due to the rain.
Light drizzling rain has fallen for most of today and organisers decided it was best to move the morning program of events indoors.
A church service, community bush breakfast and civic ceremony will now be held on Level 4 of Ray Walsh House, Council’s Tamworth offices instead of Bicentennial Park.
Majors David and Catherine Rogerson of the Salvation Army lead the Australia Day ecumenical service starting at 7.30am, with a traditional community bush breakfast at 8.30am to 9.30am.
A civic ceremony including the naturalisation of 15 new Australian citizens, the announcement of the Tamworth Region Citizen of the Year, naming of the Young Citizen of the Year and presentation of the Mitchell Brady Encouragement Award starts at 10am.
The ceremony will include an address from Australia Day ambassador, author Catherine DeVrye. A free Australia Day concert, featuring Shannon Noll, Luke Dickens, Damian Howard and Roshani Priddis will still be held in Bicentennial Park from 6.30pm.
The night will culminate in a fireworks finale at 9.45pm
