Sunday is set to be a real dog's breakfast in Tamworth with a couple of hundred canines expected to converge on the Swan St training grounds.
TRC will host a canine companions morning where the brekkie is on the house for four legged friends as part of a push to make local dogs happier and healthier.
The council's department of Environment and Health is shouting breakfast as part of an awareness campaign to highlight the dangers of obesity in dogs and the generally great social benefits of owning a canine.
Apart from the social side, the expo includes a rollup of animal welfare agencies, dog trainers, breed groups, vets, commercial dog companies, pet lovers and maybe hundreds of man’s four-legged friends.
There will be lectures, demonstrations and info on obedience, agility, nutrition, behavior and basically anything about how a dog can be a really good dog if the owner tries.
Senior environmental project officer Natasha Soar (who owns a 10-year-old red husky called Julius) and senior range Ross White, the owner of two year old Labrador Zeus and 15-year-old cattle dog Kuta, are among staff involved and are encouraging pet owners to take to the Oxley Dog training grounds from 9am.
Dogs should bring their own bowls for their brekkie biscuits and be vaccinated, and on a leash.
Humans can do breakfast too and chow down on bacon and eggs and sausages. A mobile coffee van and the Dungowan footy club will provide the human menus for a small fee as a fundraiser.
The breakfast follows an inaugural one last year where about 120 dogs turned up but organizers expect that if it’s a fine day they could see hundreds out for a walk this year.
Last year’s mutts included everything from Jack Russells, Belgian sheepdogs, Great Danes, Paris poodles, pig dogs and a lot of Heinz and bitzer breeds.
