Tamworth Regional Council has added a high flying high-tech product to its regional mapping library.
The aerial imagery is a window on the TRC world - providing high resolution pictures of the major populated areas across about 1150 of the 9650 square kilometres of the council region.
The aerial imagery of Tamworth region is for sale and is the most up to date imagery available of Tamworth areas.
According to TRC IT manager Mark Crompton the aerial imagery is a new product that adds to TRC's existing mapping resources and it provides the first ever customised digital imagery of this region.
"We expect that it will attract a lot of attention from different sections of the community, particularly in property and development circles," Mr Crompton said.
"The imagery is current and first rate. It's better than what you can normally find online and it's more up to date. It provides high resolution pictures of TRC places, including individual properties and precincts."
The imagery will be available in hard copy colour on gloss and bond paper and also as soft copy on disc or in electronic formats.
The imagery was provided by a specialist company operating a fixed wing aircraft with the latest digital camera equipment who spent two days in March criss-crossing the region. It took two months to process and has been integrated into TRC's Geographical Information System (GIS) which provides other mapping and imagery products like locality maps, service diagrams and street maps.
"We believe it will find a market for many commercial purposes, for advertising, and for information and planning, but it could also be valuable for home owners who want a keepsake photo from their air of their property." Mr Crompton said.
The new imagery provides high quality 10cm pixel resolution of Tamworth city within about 5km of the CBD. That's a big slice of land bounded by Bowlers Lane, O'Briens Lane, Maysteers Lane and Burgmanns Lane.
There are also 20cm pixel images of outlying areas to Manilla, Barraba and Nundle, including Attunga village, Kootingal and Moonbi townships, Kingswood, Daruka, Moore Creek and Piallamore.
A3 prints of individual properties start at $45. Information about the areas covered by imagery are about to be uploaded on www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/aerialimagery and a display is being mounted at Ray Walsh House. Inquiries should be directed to the GIS unit on ph 67675525.
