Golden Guitar and Aria awards winner Troy Cassar-Daley is kick starting the country music capital’s Don’t Waste Tamworth campaign for 2010.
The country music superstar is back singing the conservation song he’s sung for nine years now – as the Don’t Waste Tamworth ambassador.
Troy heads up the campaign launch on Wednesday December 2. This year, TRC has conducted a ‘Don’t Waste’ competition on local radio and competition winners will be treated to a special performance by Troy at the launch.
Troy’s been busy touring and promoting his new album, I Love This Place, which has earned him an Aria award for Country Music Album of the Year, and Troy’s also received nominations for an incredible seven Golden Guitars in next year’s CMAA awards.
Even with this busy schedule, Troy’s still keen to continue his role as the ambassador for the ‘Don’t Waste Tamworth’ campaign, and says he enjoys encouraging festival goers to do their bit for the environment by recycling and keeping the city clean.
During the 2009 festival 5.3 tonnes of drink containers were recycled through the event recycling bins across the city - an amount of material that would fill about six tipper trucks.
TRC’s Waste and Cleaning Services manager, John Davis says recycling is a great hit at the festival – and is being expanded to attract even greater participation rates next year.
“The Don’t Waste Tamworth campaign has become an important part of the festival, and we’re impressed every year by the level of participation by the visitors,” Mr Davis said.
From next January the recycling bins will cater for all types of recyclable material, so festival goers will be able to recycle more than ever. The yellow event place recycling bins have previously only catered for the recycling of beverage containers but visitors will now be able to recycle paper, cardboard, steel cans and plastics (marked 1 through to 5).
Troy returns to Tamworth in January for the 2010 Country Music Festival where he will be performing a concert at TRECC on Thursday, 21 January – and walking the red carpet for the Golden Guitars night on Saturday January 23rd.
