Some major road changes are coming into place across Tamworth that will affect traffic flows and movement.
Bridge repair and pavement repair works on the Jewry St bridge on Monday and Tuesday nights (December 14 and 15) will close the traffic connector between Taminda and north Tamworth.
Tamworth Regional Council says Jewry St will be closed between Peel and Ebsworth St at the Bunnings roundabout from 7pm to 6am on both nights.
Detours will be in place via Ebsworth and Bridge streets and Kable Av and Peel St.
And work on the new $350,000 Flinders St intersection on the Oxley Highway at Westdale will be completed later this afternoon (Friday) allowing the new traffic rules to come into place there.
The works essentially mean a safety upgrade and a smoother traffic flow for turning traffic into Flinders St and highway traffic.
The final linemarking works today will complete the major blackspot upgrade of the intersection, providing a turning bay for left hand traffic into Flinders St and a passing lane for traffic heading towards Gunnedah.
And new road rules have come into place at the intersection of Bridge St and Phillip St in west Tamworth this week because of new lanes and commercial development there.
The major change means that all traffic along Phillip St can now only turn left into Bridge St at that intersection. New traffic islands and travel lanes are also in place as a temporary measure while commercial and road works are completed.
The interim traffic rules will eventually become permanent as part of a council safety upgrade on that corner.
Tamworth Regional Council civic construction manager Murray Russell says the changed traffic conditions call for some driving care because of the construction works still going on to complete the lane deviations.
