Tamworth Regional Council General Manager Paul Bennett has been elected NSW Division President of the Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA).
Mr Bennett was elected to a two-year term at the association's annual conference in Sydney last week and follows six years as a board members and two years as vice president.
More than 760 local government managers are members of the LGMA NSW Division including general managers, directors, managers and other professional staff from across the state.
`I am very excited - and a bit nervous - about taking on this role for the next two years,' Mr Bennett said. 'The LGMA will be a major contributor to the activities being undertaken under Destination 2036, the Independent Review Panel, and the rewrite of the Local Government Act.
`I figure that it is much better to step up to the plate and play an active role in helping to shape the future of Local Government in NSW rather than sit back and simply watch from the sidelines.
`I certainly feel very privileged to have been selected by my peers to guide the LGMA through what is likely to be one of the most important periods of reform our sector has ever experienced.'
