The search is on for residents of the Tamworth region who make a significant contribution to their community, with nominations open for the 2012 Australia Day awards.
Awards will be presented for achievements in 2012 at Tamworth, Manilla. Barraba and Nundle on January 26 next year but nominations close early next month.
Tamworth region Mayor Col Murray encourages local residents to nominate people they know who make a significant contribution to their local community.
`We all know of local residents who give their time for their community and nominating them for an Australia Day award is a small way of acknowledging their effort,' he said. 'It's a way of giving them a pat on the back to show their work is appreciated.'
Tamworth, Manilla, Barraba and Nundle each have various Australia Day awards presented on January 26 each year at celebrations organised by their local Australia Day committee.
Tamworth presents awards for a Citizen of the Year and George Nethery Medal to a person aged over 30 years of age, Young Citizen of the Year for a person aged 30 years and under and the Mitchell Brady Encouragement Award to a student who attends Year 10 at high school or younger.
Manilla will award a Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (18 years and under) and Community Event of the Year.
