The newly-formed TASTE Festival Advisory Committee will meet next month after Tamworth Regional Council endorsed the appointment of four community representatives.
On Tuesday night, Tamworth regional councillors supported a recommendation from Destination Tamworth business events staff for Graham Manvell, Jye Segboer, Mary Ryan-Garnett and Erin Chillingworth to be chosen as the community representatives.
Their appointment is until 30 June 2013. Future appointments will be for 12 months from 1 July to 30 June.
A representative from Council Business and Economic Development Directorate will complete the TASTE Festival Advisory Committee.
Council took up ownership of the TASTE Festival in July after the TASTE Committee Tamworth Inc, which formed in 2009, asked Council to take over the running of the event incorporating TASTE in the Park and The Long Lunch.
Council sought expressions of interest in community representative roles on a new TASTE Festival Advisory Committee. Seven local people with a variety of experience in the food and wine industry or marketing and event backgrounds sought appointment.
The committee will oversee the ongoing development, marketing and operation of the TASTE Festival. The committee will also provide direction and leadership and ensure the festival continues to develop as a premier event on the Australian Food and Wine calendar.
The TASTE Festival is the highlight of the Tamworth's culinary calendar and has helped raised more than $20,000 for Ronald McDonald House in the past three years.
With the Festival now overseen by Destination Tamworth, any profit will be added to Council's donations vote and the funds allocated to local community groups in accordance with Council policy.
