Council traineeship opportunities Two Tamworth Regional Council trainees will talk about their experiences at an event showcasing local education, training and employment opportunities at Tamworth War Memorial Town Hall on Tuesday night (October 16).
Council is among a range of local employers, training organisations and job service providers taking part in Live, Train and Work in Tamworth, an annual training and employment event co-ordinated by Greater Northern Skills Development Group.
Alex Brandon, an IT Support Trainee, and Parks and Gardens Apprentice Brock Little will share their experiences during Tamworth Regional Council's workshop presentation from 6pm-6.15pm.
Alex joined Council in 2011. He has since completed a Certificate III in Information Technology and is now undertaking Certificate IV studies. Alex was a finalist in the New England North West Region 2012 NSW Training Awards.
Brock was introduced to Council in 2010 as a school-based trainee. He has since successfully applied for an apprentice position in the Parks and Gardens team. Brock and his supervisor, Parks and Landscaping Technical Officer Bruce Wheatley, will talk about Brock's learning journey.
Council Training Officer Lauren Witten will conclude the workshop with information about how to apply for job vacancies at Council and the importance of addressing the selection criteria.
Tamworth Regional Council Learning and Development Officer, Sarah Stewart, said Live, Train and Work in Tamworth was a great opportunity for school students to find out about local training and employment opportunities.
'It is an ideal way for Council to highlight its employment and training opportunities,' she said. 'At times students don't realise how broad the range of job roles are across Council, so it's a great benefit for us to take part and provide as much information as we can.'
Council will also have an information stand at Live, Train and Work in Tamworth which runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Entry is free.
