A mammoth created from a piece of corrugated iron and wood and pop-art style portraits which use colourful bottle tops are among the 62 entries in the 2012 Waste > Art & Design Competition on exhibition at Tamworth Regional Council’s customer service centre at Ray Walsh House.
Community members are encouraged to take a look at the Tamworth exhibition by 5pm Wednesday next week (4 July) and vote for their favourite.
The entries can be viewed any weekday between 8.30am and 5pm up to and including Friday 6 July.
The entry with the most votes will receive the People’s Choice Award for Tamworth.
‘There are some amazingly creative and artistic works which are well worth a look,’ said Tamworth Regional Council Waste Education Officer Angela Dodson.
‘Come and be inspired by the creative members of the local community’.
The Tamworth winners of all the various categories of the competition will be announced at an award ceremony on Thursday, 5 July at 3pm in the foyer of Ray Walsh House.
Winners of each category of the competition will go onto the regional exhibition in Glen Innes at the end of July.
The Waste > Art & Design Competition, run by Northern Inland Regional Waste, is now in its 11th year. It aims to put the spotlight on waste reduction and creativity.
Residents and schools students of all 13 local government areas which are members of Northern Inland Regional Waste have submitted entries.
Entries are judged on their reuse or recycling of waste and pre-loved materials, craftsmanship and quality of artwork and aesthetic merit as well as creativity and inspiration.
Thanks to the support of Essential Energy this year, Northern Inland Regional Waste is able to offer a generous prize pool for the Regional Competition.
