Tamworth Regional Council will work with Tamworth Aero Club to help it relocate to another site at Tamworth Regional Airport.
Councillors decided at this week’s Council meeting not to renew the club’s lease for its current site which ends on June 30 this year.
They agreed to allow the club to continue to occupy the site on a month-to-month basis while liaising with the club about relocating to another site.
The club is on two parcels of leased land adjacent to the passenger terminal building at Tamworth Regional Airport. One is occupied by the club premises and the other is a carpark.
A report tabled at Tuesday night’s meeting said the land occupied by the aero club will be needed for future passenger terminal expansion or the development of a freight facility associated with the passenger aircraft.
The report said discussions have already taken place with the aero club about the possible relocation to an alternate area of the airport which would allow the facility to expand and offer services which would also complement the airport’s operation, for example, motel accommodation.
'Council has been willing and has encouraged these discussions, however, these need to progress to a firm commitment for a relocation in the future,’ the report said.
'In the interim period, the club could continue to operate from its existing facility on a month-to-month basis until a final decision has been made.’
