Judging is underway of the Tamworth Region's entries in the Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards 2012.
Greg Croft of Port Macquarie will spend four days assessing 19 entries from across the region.
Today and tomorrow he will look at entries at Nundle, Hanging Rock, Woolomin and surrounding locations. He will be in Tamworth on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tamworth Regional Council Parks and Horticulture Manager Brian Sheedy said the region's communities have entered a wide range of categories in this year's awards. 'Council has been working with Paul Ying and the Tamworth Tidy Towns Committee for some weeks to make sure our parks and reserves are at their best for the assessor's visit,' he said.
Nundle has eight submissions entered in Category A (population up to 350): Overall award; Cultural Heritage Award – Go For Gold Festival; Bush Spirit Award – The Great Nundle Dog Race; Waste Management and Litter Reduction; Water Conservation Award; Wildlife Corridors and Habitat Conservation Award – Nundle Woody Weeds Project; Schools Environment Award – Nundle Public School; and, Schools Environment Award – Nundle CWA Preschool.
Hanging Rock has entered two sections in Category A (population of up to 350): New Town Award and Bush Spirit Award – Community Hall.
Woolomin has entered the Woolomin Recreation Reserve in the Bush Spirit Award for Category A (population of up to 350).
Manilla has one entry in Category C (population of 1,201 to 4,000) in the Cultural Heritage Award – Manilla Historical Society.
Tamworth has submitted seven entries in Category F (population of 25,001 and over): Overall Award; Cultural Heritage Award – 40 Years of Country Music; Bush Spirit Award – Tamworth Relay for Life; Waste Management and Litter Reduction Award – Challenge Recycling Plan; Water Conservation Awartd – Effluent Reuse Farm; Wildlife Corridors and Habitat Conservation Award – Victoria Park Master Plan; Schools Environment Award – William Cowper School.
The Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards 2012 winners will be announced in early November at Kyogle.
