Tamworth Regional Council Senior Building Inspector, Rodney Hogan, has been honoured by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors.
The Insitute’s NSW President, presented Mr Hogan with a Certificate of Appreciation on Tuesday at the NSW/ACT 2012 Conference held in Sydney.
The honour recognises Mr Hogan’s many years of service and the advancement of the building profession in NSW, particularly in the Tamworth region.
Tamworth Regional Council Director of Planning and Community Services, Jackie Kruger, praised Mr Hogan for his achievement.
`Council is very proud of Rodney’s achievement and he should be proud of such a prestigious recognition by his peers,’ she said.
`His citation from the Institute makes special mention of his contribution to building and development through his time serving on a Standards Australia committee for domestic footings and slab design, the results of which are used by nearly every building certifier in NSW and other states on a daily basis.’
Mr Hogan said it was `a real honour’ to be among the eight people to receive an award at the conference. `It means a lot because it is from your peers,’ he said. `It’s very humbling.’
Mr Hogan was a builder by trade when he started his Local Government with the former Tamworth City Council in 1981.
He believes his greatest achievement during his Local Government career has come through his role in training others.
`Over the years I have provided initial training for some 18 junior building surveyors, laying the groundwork for their careers not only by way of technical skill but also to appreciate issues from the builders’ point of view and the industry in general,’ he said.
`They have all gone further in their careers to provide a very valuable contribution to the industry and it’s satisfying to have played a small part in that.’
