Tamworth Region Deputy Mayor, Councillor Helen Tickle
Councillor Helen Tickle has tonight retained her position as Deputy Mayor and will continue in the role for the next 12 months. With only two nominations – Cr Tickle and Cr Russell Webb – and a tied vote of four each, the final decision was made via ballot draw conducted by General Manager Paul Bennett. Councillor Charles Impey was an apology at the meeting.
Councillor Tickle is currently in her third term on Council, and this will be her second as Deputy Mayor. During her term, she has been a strong advocate for health, tertiary education, disability services, regional development and employment opportunities and says she will continue to campaign for improvements in all of these areas.
“I plan to build on the work I have done so far – that includes the growth of tertiary education opportunities in the Tamworth Region, particularly face-to-face options, and the improvement of disability, health and aged care services, regional development and employment opportunities.
“We are making great progress in the health space with the development of outdoor activity spaces such as walking paths, cycling paths and playgrounds, and just recently the installation of water refill stations to encourage everyone to drink more water. There is more to be done, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve another 12 months as Deputy Mayor.”
Nominations for over 40 special purpose committees, working groups, external boards and organisations were also held at tonight’s meeting. It was determined that the status quo remain for existing appointments.
