The picture of the Tamworth regional economy that emerges from the statistical analysis is of a local economy that is weathering the global economic downturn. The latest Economic Performance Report (2009) commissioned by Council shows that the regional economy has generally performed well against regional and state benchmarks. In particular, despite declining business confidence in the wider economy, new business registrations in Tamworth region have remained constant. A detailed picture of the socio-demographic profile of our community is also available from the easy to use charts, tables and maps of the Community Profile and Atlas.

The 2008 Economic Performance Report provides a review of the Tamworth regional economy and how it has performed according to various indicators over the past year. Despite the universal economic downtown, the regional economy has generally performed well against regional and state benchmarks. For example, although the region has continued to experience population growth, the unemployment rate has reduced slightly over the past year. Other indicators of business activity and investment that are assessed show that although the Tamworth business community has been negatively affected by worsening global economic conditions, the impacts have not been as adverse as they have been for other areas.
