All Council owned land is classified as either Community land or Operational land under the Local Government Act 1993 and this restricts whether Council can sell the land and what purposes it can be leased for.
Council cannot sell council owned land that is classified as Community land, but can lease both Community and Operational land for particular uses.
Council owned land can either be sold on the open market or by exclusive negotiation with a single purchaser where there is public benefit to do so.
Council provides different types of leases depending upon the use of the land.
