Council owned land can be sold by either Open Market Method or Exclusive Negotiation.
Open Market Method
Appoint a local Real Estate Agent to sell the land by:
- auction
- tender
- expression of interest
- open market/private treaty
Council acts as its own agent. In both cases Council will extensively advertise the properties being sold. Selling prices will be determined based on an independent valuation by a registered Valuer.
Exclusive Negotiation Method
Council may, in exceptional circumstances, enter into exclusive negotiations with a single purchaser.
This method of sale is adopted by Council in circumstances where considerable public benefit will be derived from the sale, which would not have been achieved in an open market method.
