Tamworth Regional Council offers customers a range of options for rate payments.

Direct Debit – Cheque/Savings Account
This is the most cost-effective method to pay your rates.
Council can automatically deduct the amount due by quarterly instalments or the payment in full on the due date of the first instalment. Weekly, fortnightly, or monthly deductions can be arranged with Council.
To arrange a direct debit, download the Direct Debit Application Form. Please refer to the Direct Debit Service Agreement for terms and conditions.
Australia Post
Pay in person at any Australia Post Office or agency. Please take your rate notice when making your payment.
Phone 13 18 16, with your credit card and follow the prompts.
Via the internet, please visit Postbillpay and follow the prompts.
BPAY – Cheque/Savings Account
This is available for payments via telephone or internet:
- contact your financial institution’s telephone or internet banking facility for details
- quote Council’s Rates Biller Code 4457 or Water Biller Code 4473
- quote your reference number shown under the BPay details on your rate or water notice
Centrelink
Centrelink will automatically deduct the amount specified each fortnight directly from your benefits payment.

In Person
Payments can be made at any Council Customer Service Centre via cash, cheque, EFTPOS and Credit Card. A surcharge applies to all payments made via credit cards. To locate the closest branch office please visit the contact information page.

Cheques must be made payable to ‘Tamworth Regional Council’ and crossed ‘Not Negotiable’.

I’m currently experiencing financial hardship, what help is available?
Council recognises there are cases of genuine financial hardship requiring respect and compassion. Council has a ‘Ratepayers Hardship Policy’ which provides guidelines for the assessment of hardship applications. If you cannot pay your rates by the dates required then please contact Council’s Debt Recovery Officer on 1300 733 625 to discuss alternate payment arrangements.
