Located in the heart of Tamworth’s CBD in the Centrepoint Shopping Centre, the Capitol Theatre Tamworth is a performing arts theatre which presents a range of music, theatre and dance. It also offers full conference facilities.
Tamworth Regional Council spent $1.6 million on the venue, which opened in 2008, and has a 15 year lease on the property.
The theatre is a 402 seat purpose-built proscenium arch theatre with a hydraulic orchestra pit lift accommodating up to 25 musicians; an automated winch flying system and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. It boasts a 16 metre wide screen - the biggest retractable screen in the southern hemisphere, which rolls down in front of the stage for quick conversion to cinema mode.
The Capitol Theatre has full conference facilities and is fully wheelchair accessible, including access to the stage, dressing room and shower. The theatre shares its foyer and fully licensed bar space with Forum 6 Cinemas.

The Capitol Theatre stands on the same site as the original Capitol Theatre, which opened as a cinema in 1927 and was demolished in 1984.
