The Kootingal area is renowned for pumpkin growing. Kootingal is 17km north east of Tamworth on the New England Highway, at the foot of the beautiful Moonbi Ranges.
The Kootingal Pumpkin Festival is held each April at the Kootingal Sportsground. There is something for the whole family including:
- live entertainment
- wine tasting
- children and adult pumpkin competitions
- wood chopping
- shearing
- pumpkin bowling and
- dozens of regional stalls
