Council recently established the Coledale Community Garden behind the Coledale Community Centre to encourage community members to work together to grow fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs and indigenous plants.
Community members have been involved in the process from the initial concept phase. The project has a number of benefits, including associated educational and employment opportunities through courses such as TAFE’s Envirolearn; education around sustainable practices; and raising awareness of healthy eating choices.
The garden is a joint venture between Housing NSW, Coledale Residents association, Tamworth Regional Council, Botanic Gardens Trust, Joblink Plus, New England Institute of TAFE and Tamworth/Manilla Land Care.
For more information on the Coledale Community Garden or how to be involved, please contact Council’s Community Planning and Development Officer on (02) 6767 5474.
